Zodiak Typeface Type Specimen

This project involved creating a type specimen for Zodiak, a contemporary serif typeface, to demonstrate its range, structure, and expressive ability through a unified typographic system.
My concept focused on highlighting Zodiak’s balance between traditional serif characteristics and modern refinement through an editorial, structured layout that emphasizes clarity and hierarchy. I explored scale, repetition, and composition to showcase the typeface's expressive details.
I began by researching the typeface’s history, designer, and defining characteristics, which guided the overall visual approach. The layout was crafted to highlight key elements like the character set, range of weights, and unique typographic features, using hierarchy, spacing, and alignment to ensure clarity and consistency.
I also examined scale, contrast, and composition to emphasize both the functional and expressive qualities of the typeface. The final specimen offers a clear and cohesive overview, highlighting its versatility, structure, and visual personality.
This project deepened my understanding of typography as both a structural and expressive tool. It emphasized the importance of hierarchy, spacing, and attention to detail, and helped me develop a more intentional approach to working with type as the main design element.
