Clean Beauty Editorial Magazine

This group project focused on designing a multi-page magazine centred around clean, organic, and cruelty-free beauty. The goal was to create a structured, cohesive editorial layout that effectively communicates the content while reflecting the subject matter's values.
We developed the magazine around the theme of clean beauty, using a soft, natural colour palette inspired by natural elements. Tones such as sand, muted greens, and warm neutrals were intentionally chosen to visually reinforce ideas of sustainability, simplicity, and transparency. The overall aesthetic aimed to evoke a sense of calm, refinement, and grounding, aligning with the values of organic and cruelty-free products.
Working collaboratively with Claire and Olivia, we divided the spreads evenly while maintaining consistent communication to ensure a unified design system. We developed a modular grid and a baseline grid to structure content across all pages, ensuring consistent alignment and spacing.
Typography was carefully considered to establish a clear hierarchy and ensure readability, with consistent styles used throughout. Imagery was selected and placed to complement the editorial tone, with attention to composition, flow, and balance across spreads.
We also applied key InDesign techniques such as parent pages, paragraph and character styles, and layout tools to maintain efficiency and consistency throughout the document.
The final magazine presents a cohesive editorial piece with strong structure, clear typographic hierarchy, and a consistent visual language. The use of natural colour and imagery supports the concept, while the layout remains clean, readable, and visually engaging across both print and digital formats.
This project strengthened my ability to design within a structured system while collaborating as part of a team. It reinforced the importance of consistency, communication, and aligning visual decisions with the concept. I also developed a stronger understanding of editorial layout and how design systems support both readability and visual storytelling.
