Music Festival Passport Program

Scroll

An interactive, pocket-sized festival program designed for Lollapalooza that organizes multi-day event information through strong typographic hierarchy, structured layout systems, and clear visual communication. Developed as part of a typography-focused project, the design emphasizes hierarchy, grid systems, and precise typesetting to present complex information clearly and consistently.

I wanted to move beyond a traditional festival program and create a more engaging, memorable experience. I developed a “festival passport” concept that allows attendees to collect stamps at different shows, encouraging interaction and creating a personal keepsake.

The compact format was intentionally designed for portability, making it easy to carry and use throughout the festival.

I began by organizing a large volume of event information, including schedules, listings, and supporting content across multiple days. Establishing a clear structure early on enabled me to design a layout system that efficiently manages complex information.

Typography was used as the primary design tool to create hierarchy and guide navigation. I applied consistent type pairings, scale, and spacing to differentiate content while maintaining visual cohesion. Grid systems and precise alignment ensured consistency across pages, while careful attention to kerning, tracking, and spacing improved readability within the small format.

Visually, I was inspired by the 2024 Lollapalooza colour palette, using bold, high-contrast tones to inform the overall aesthetic. I applied duotone image treatments to create a cohesive visual language throughout the booklet, reinforcing the festival’s energy while maintaining consistency across spreads.

To support the passport concept, I designed a custom Lollapalooza stamping system that lets users mark shows they attend, adding an interactive layer to the experience. The booklet also includes additional functional elements, such as a park map for navigation and a barcode on the back, allowing it to serve as both a program and an entry pass.

The final design is a compact, user-friendly festival program that combines clear information design with an interactive concept. The passport format enhances engagement while maintaining strong typographic structure, resulting in a cohesive, functional, and memorable user experience.
