The objective of this project was to isolate a subject and seamlessly integrate it into a vibrant, stylized environment. This was accomplished using precise masking, colour grading, and blending techniques, with a focus on maintaining realistic lighting, depth, and overall visual cohesion.
I explored the contrast between natural portraiture and a surreal, colour-driven environment. I intentionally chose a highly saturated, multi-coloured background to create a more challenging blending process and to push my ability to balance bold visual expression with realism.
I selected a subject with detailed features to challenge my precision in masking and edge refinement. Using Select and Mask, I focused on capturing fine details while maintaining a natural silhouette. I then applied colour grading and lighting adjustments to both the subject and background to unify the composition. Throughout the process, I used non-destructive techniques, including adjustment layers, blending modes, and smart objects, to maintain flexibility
and control.
The final image presents a cohesive composition in which the subject integrates naturally into a vivid, immersive space. Consistent lighting and colour treatment create a seamless transition between foreground and background.
This project strengthened my attention to detail and reinforced the importance of precision when working with complex edges and colour environments. It also helped me develop my ability to create cohesive visuals while working with bold and challenging design elements.
